Designing rugs is a first for artist La Piana, yet it is a natural extension of his studio work, where painting, drawing, photography and sculpture are all mediums he is immersed in. The imagery on the handmade rugs expresses La Piana’s recurring thematic interpretation of the interplay of light and movement. The finished rugs are often bold and geometric, at other times abstract or impressionistic and serene, evoking images of nature. The collection is comprised of 28 rugs. 7 of the pieces were previewed at the Robert Miller Gallery. www.josephlapiana.com |
